President Rumen Radev will petition the Constitutional Court against National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova’s decision to bar as inadmissible his proposal to the Assembly for a national referendum on the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria.

“Scenarios have been orchestrated in the political circles with an aim to suppress matters that are important to the public,” Radev said on Friday before leaving on a visit to Japan.

He commented: “The manipulative assertion that the referendum which I propose is against the euro, is an affront to the intellect of the Bulgarians. My purpose is clear: every Bulgarian citizen should have a say about our preparedness to adopt the euro next year.”

“A debate has finally started on our real preparedness,” he added.
