site.btaGovernment Survives No-Confidence Vote, Its Second in Two Weeks
The Cabinet of Rosen Zhelyazkov Thursday survived a no-confidence vote over corruption. The motion was submitted by MECh with the support of Velichie and Vazrazhdane.
The vote on the motion was 71-131 with no abstentions. There were 202 MPs in the plenary hall. The debates were held in Parliament on Wednesday.
The motion was put to the vote for a second time on the request of an MP, and one vote shifted to support the motion but did nothing to change the outcome.
The government was backed by GERB-UDF, MRF – New Beginning, BSP – United Left, There Is Such a People. The votes against the government came from Vazrazhdane, MECh, Velichie and Democracy, Rights and Freedoms. Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria did not vote.
The first no-confidence bid was over the Cabinet's foreign policy and was moved by Vazrazhdane with support from Velichie and MECh. It was voted down on April 3.
To go through, the motion needed the support of more than half of the MPs in the 240-seat legislature.
