site.btaBulgaria Seeks Extradition of Former Development Bank Chief Detained in Serbia

The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SCPO) has taken steps for former Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) chief executive Stoyan Mavrodiev to be extradited to this country, SCPO Spokesperson Desislava Petrova told reporters on Friday. Petrova confirmed Mavrodiev's June 3 arrest in Serbia.

Mavrodiev is wanted by the Bulgarian authorities for a loan of BGN 150 million (EUR 77 million) extended by the BDB. A European arrest warrant was issued against him after he was placed on a national wanted list in August 2024.

Petrova, who is also Deputy Sofia City Prosecutor, told the media that Mavrodiev's possible extradition to Bulgaria depends on the competent Serbian authorities. "On our part, we have taken all measures permitted by law to ensure that he faces all consequences of the criminal proceedings in Bulgaria," she said.
