site.btaPM Meets with Ambassadors from EU, US, UK, Switzerland

Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev on Wednesday met with the ambassadors of the EU member states, the United States, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

During the meeting, Glavchev briefed diplomats on the government's main task – holding free and fair elections. At the same time, the Prime Minister was adamant that the cabinet will continue to work on all other aspects of the Bulgarian foreign policy and follow Bulgaria's Euro-Atlantic path.

Before the ambassadors the Prime Minister noted that key international priorities of Bulgaria remain accession to Schengen by land and accession to the euro area. Bulgaria will continue its constructive dialogue and active cooperation with European partners. Glavchev stressed that Bulgaria's efforts have led to decreasing migratory pressure. Regarding the euro area, the Prime Minister said that Bulgaria's ambition is to introduce the common European currency in 2025. In this regard, the Prime Minister said that the country expects support from the members of the euro area, as well as a quick review and assessment of Bulgaria's readiness. Glavchev assured the guests that the Bulgarian institutions are working intensively and are making good progress on all flows to ensure timely preparation for membership.

Bulgaria's accession to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) was another highlight. The Prime Minister outlined the benefits of the country's membership, highlighting the beneficial impact on the entire region of Southeast Europe, contributing to improving economic stability, investment climate and living standards. Bulgaria remains strongly committed to supporting OECD regional initiatives and in particular the South East Europe regional agenda.

Security in the Black Sea, the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East also featured on the agenda.
