The majority of EU countries back EU support for Ukraine, according to a Eurobarometer survey, carried out in March and presented at the European Parliament on Tuesday. While support in Sweden stands at 97%,  in Finland at 96%, and the Netherlands and Portugal at 95%, in Bulgaria it is 54%, and in Slovakia and Greece at 51% each.

Some 39% of Bulgarians disapprove.

Over half of EU citizens (54%) and 46% of Bulgarians support EU’s foreign policy. The majority of Bulgarians (57%) are uninterested in the European elections that will take places in June 2024.

Over half of EU citizens (56%) expressed satisfaction with the way in which democracy works in their countries. By comparison, as little as 35% of Bulgarians are satisfied, while 62% are dissatisfied.

Some 60% of Bulgarians and 70% of Europeans are happy with the freedom of speech, but 52% of Bulgarians are dissatisfied with the freedom and fairness of elections. In Bulgaria, 56% of respondents are dissatisfied with the rule of law, and 62% with political parties. Over half of Bulgarians (53%) are unhappy with the fight against disinformation, and 60% with efforts against corruption.

The survey shows that Europeans are unhappy with measures at national and European level against the higher cost of living. On average 65% of European citizens are unhappy with the actions of their governments in this area, compared with 81% in Bulgaria. Over half (57% in the EU and 61% in Bulgaria) are dissatisfied with measures taken at European level.
