Overcoming the consequences of the energy crisis through common actions within the EU to reduce the prices of energy resources, as well as the possibilities for support for the Member States that have filled their gas storage facilities with natural gas at a price significantly higher than the current one, were among the topics that President Rumen Radev raised in a videoconference with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. The discussion was part of the preparations for the upcoming European Council meeting, which will be held on March 23-24. Bulgaria will be represented by the head of State, Radev's press secretariat reported here on Tuesday.
The President expressed Bulgaria's support for the continuation of the initiative for a transit corridor for grain exports from Ukraine to countries in need. At the same time, he stressed on the need of European measures to prevent the transit from impacting the domestic markets in Bulgaria and other countries in the region.
As for the fight against illegal migration, Bulgaria expects more than just financial support from its European partners, Radev pointed out. He highlighted the country's joint initiative with Europol, as well as interested Member States and partnering third countries, for setting up a task force in Bulgaria in order to quickly exchange operational information and take coordinated joint measures against illegal migration.
