An exhibition entitled War in Centimetres, marking four years since the the beginning of the war in Ukraine, was opened in Varna on Friday, Tatiana Christy from the Open Heart Foundation told BTA.
It shows photographs of 20 Ukrainian children of different ages, who are now living in Varna. Christy noted that the youngest child no longer has memories of his homeland and does not associate with Ukraine.
"The idea is to feel what four years mean for a child forced to live far from home and grow up in a foreign country," Christy said, adding that the photographs are black and white with red accents, symbolizing the bloodbath inflicted on the Ukrainian people. The association with the film Schindler's List was deliberately sought.
Children's playgrounds and attractions were chosen as backgrounds, which look spooky and almost sinister, like the childhood of many Ukrainian children, Christy pointed out. The photographs are the work of Petar Penkov.
The exhibition can be seen until March 9 in the Art Salon of Radio Varna, after which it will also visit Sofia.
