site.btaUPDATED PM Gurov, CEC Chair Discuss Preparation for Upcoming Snap Parliamentary Elections
At the beginning of his meeting with the leadership of the Central Election Commission (CEC) on Friday, caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov said that his cabinet is determined to conduct a very good process in the upcoming elections.
“To guarantee a fair electoral process, we must work in very close coordination and, through regular meetings, exchange ideas and approaches for improving the conduct of the election process,” Gurov emphasized.
Gurov said that it is extremely important to train all members of the district election commissions. “We have ideas on how this training can be conducted and then tested after the training process, so that we can be sure that the members of the district election commissions are well trained and properly prepared,” he explained.
“To improve organization, it would be very beneficial to have a standard format for voting booths and for them to be provided centrally, so that all polling stations use the same type of booths. This would help safeguard the integrity of the vote and prevent various types of irregularities that may arise when different kinds of booths are used,” he added.
Central Election Commission Chair Kamelia Neykova also voiced hope for successful joint work. She added that they must work together to produce free and democratic elections, thereby guaranteeing Bulgarian voters that they will be able to exercise their vote in peace. The meeting discussed the preparation for the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, scheduled for April 19, 2026.
The Prime Minister recalled his Friday morning meeting with representatives of the students who participated in the protests in December. "They highlighted one main priority - restoring trust in the institutions. In order to have trust in the institutions, the most important thing is how they will be broadcast, that is, what kind of democratic election process we will conduct", Gurov said. The PM told the CEC representatives that they can count on his cabinet's full cooperation.
The beginning of the meeting was open to the media, after which the conversation continued behind closed doors. George Sharkov - caretaker Minister of Electronic Governance and Rumyana Bachvarova - Chef de Cabinet of the Prime Minister, also participated in the meeting.
