Turkish security forces have carried out simultaneous, coordinated operations against organized crime in Istanbul and in the provinces of Adana, Kocaeli, Sivas, and Sakarya.

According to Turkiye’s state broadcaster TRT Haber, the operations followed lengthy intelligence-gathering efforts targeting organized criminal groups. Surveillance established that groups and individuals had organized or were involved in 55 crimes committed in Istanbul and the four provinces.

As a result of the operations, 40 people suspected of organizing and participating in the crimes were detained.

The raids were conducted simultaneously under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the participation of teams from the intelligence units, riot police, and special operations units of the security directorates in Istanbul and the other provinces.

Questioning of the detainees is currently under way at police departments, TRT Haber reported.
