The Director of General Directorate Border Police, Chief Commissioner Deyan Mollov, is becoming deputy director. His place will be taken by his deputy Rositsa Dimitrova, the Interior Ministry told BTA on Wednesday. One of the reasons for the swap is the increased migrant flow along the border.

On August 5, caretaker Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said that the migration pressure along the border with Turkey has grown by 24% in July compared to June 2022.

Mollov will be in charge of handling the migration pressure, a fight he has experience with, while Dimitrova will be responsible for Bulgaria’s entry in Schengen, one of the Interior Ministry’s priorities, the press release reads.

Late on Tuesday, it transpired that Chief Commissioner Ventsislav Kirchev was dismissed as Director of General Directorate National Police and will be replaced by his deputy, Senior  Commissioner Atanas Ilkov.

On Monday, Minister Demerdzhiev told reporters that changes to his Ministry's administration would not be done, unless "a particular individual is hindering the Ministry from achieving its goals".
