“Freedom is a question posed to us every day, and a decision that must be defended,” caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov said on the occasion of Bulgaria’s National Day. His March 3 statement was published on the official Facebook page of the Council of Ministers.
According to the Prime Minister, freedom is a choice that is “sometimes uncomfortable” - a choice to think, not to remain silent, and not to fear one’s own responsibility. “The easiest thing is to accept freedom as a given. The hardest is to admit that it depends on us,” Gurov added.
“Every generation has its own liberation and its own trial. Sometimes it comes in the form of elections, a single ballot, a single decision whether to participate or to stand aside,” he commented.
The caretaker Prime Minister stressed that freedom is action. He recalled that on March 3 Bulgarians remember those who dreamed of being free. “Tomorrow, someone will remember whether we chose to be,” Andrey Gurov added.
Bulgaria marks the 148th anniversary of its Liberation on Tuesday. Events dedicated to the national holiday are being held across the country.
