site.btaPresident: Major National Goals Are Achievable Only with Support of All 265 Municipalities

Addressing delegates of the 39th General Assembly of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB) on Tuesday, President Iliana Iotova said that major national goals are achievable only when they have the support of all 265 municipalities. “Without you, the link between the state and its citizens is impossible,” she added.

President Iotova emphasized that in the context of the upcoming early parliamentary elections, much is expected from the municipalities. “The big idea of fair, well-organized, and transparent elections is largely in your hands,” Iotova told mayors from across the country. She called on them to work together to ensure that citizens can vote with confidence, knowing that every vote will be counted - from the formation of the election commissions to the tallying of results on election day.

“Let us show that the mantra that has haunted us for more than 30 years about how elections are conducted in Bulgaria is now being rejected, and that things can be done differently. Your responsibility is of great importance. Any policy would be doomed to failure without strong local self-government,” the head of State added.
