The National Assembly Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee on Tuesday voted, 11-8 with one abstention, to reject a veto that President Iliana Iotova imposed on February 11 on amendments to the Election Code that limit to 20 the number of voting sections in any country which is not an EU Member State, not counting the voting sections at Bulgarian embassies and consulates.

Those in favour were the MPs of GERB-UDF, There Is Such a People, Vazrazhdane and one of BSP-United Left. Those against were Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria, the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms, MRF-New Beginning, Velichie and one of BSP-United Left. The MeCh representative abstained.

The veto will no be debated by the full house (most probably before the end of this week), where the minimum number of votes required to override it is 50 per cent plus one of all 240 lawmakers, i.e. 121.
