site.btaBulgarian, Romanian Police Conduct Joint Traffic Checks in Vidin Region

Starting Friday and continuing through August 19, joint teams of Bulgarian and Romanian police officers will be monitoring traffic in Vidin Region, including the regional capital, the Vidin Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry said.
The police officers will monitor the E-79 road due to heavy traffic, particularly Romanian vehicles heading to Bulgarian resorts or transiting towards Greece. The law enforcers will target dangerous driving behaviours, including improper overtaking and driving under the influence. Police will also check for the use of safety equipment by drivers and passengers, verify the validity of documents, ensure compulsory vehicle insurance is in place, and assess the technical condition of vehicles. Romanian police officers will assist their Bulgarian counterparts in communicating with Romanian drivers and checking their documents when traffic violations occur.
The Vidin police noted that similar joint patrols will take place in other border regions of this country as part of the Interior Ministry’s plan to maintain internal security and public order through compensatory measures related to Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area.
