The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria increased by 0.59% to 2.378 points over the past week, according to the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets. Last week, the index stood at 2.364 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
In the vegetables category, cucumbers saw the sharpest price increase, rising by 13.61% to BGN 4.59 per kilogram. They were followed by tomatoes, which went up by 1.25% to BGN 3.08/kg. Potatoes rose by 0.44% to BGN 0.92/kg, onions by 0.43% to BGN 0.93/kg, and red peppers by 0.23% to BGN 2.60/kg. Cabbage depreciated by 19.2% to BGN 0.69/kg. The price of zucchini decreased by 11.05% to BGN 2.19/kg. Green peppers fell by 5.37% to BGN 2.29/kg. Carrots also became cheaper, down by 2.6% to BGN 1.05/kg.
In the fruit category, grapes went up by 6.07% to BGN 3.32/kg. Apples appreciated by 3.86% to BGN 2.15/kg. Prices declined for oranges, down by 6.38% to BGN 2.20/kg, lemons, down by 5.14% to BGN 3.10/kg, and bananas, down by 4.74% to BGN 2.61/kg.
The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk decreased by 0.29% to BGN 11.80/kg, while that of Vitosha-type yellow kashkaval cheese went up by 1.3% to BGN 18.49/kg. Yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) dropped by 1.85% to BGN 1.38 per 400 grams. Milk fell by 0.34% to BGN 2.35 per litre. Butter from cow's milk went down by 3.06% to BGN 3.06 for 125 grams.
Frozen poultry rose by 0.58% to BGN 6.99/kg, while eggs (size M) increased by 0.47% to BGN 0.43 per piece wholesale. The price of rice rose by 3.04% to BGN 3.39/kg. Flour (type 500) fell by 0.79% to BGN 1.51/kg. Prices also declined for sugar, down by 2.37% to BGN 1.81/kg, mature beans, down by 1.39% to BGN 4.25/kg, and lentils, down by 1.45% to BGN 4.20/kg.
