Representatives of the Interior Ministries of Bulgaria and Romania held a video conference to discuss shared security challenges facing the two countries and the Schengen area, Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry said in a press release on Monday.

Taking part in the meeting were Secretary General of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry, Chief Commissioner Miroslav Rashkov, and Police Chief-Quaestor Bogdan Despescu, Secretary of State for Public Order and Safety at Romania's Ministry of Internal Affair.

The two sides praised bilateral cooperation in the period from March to June 2025, following their previous meeting in Bucharest in March. The talks focused on potential challenges following the removal of checks at the internal land border.

The delegations also exchanged information on preparations for the upcoming Schengen evaluations of Bulgaria and Romania this autumn.

Effective cooperation between Bulgaria’s Internal Security Directorate and Romania’s General Anti-Corruption Directorate was also on the agenda.

Both countries agreed to continue prioritizing the smooth crossing of vehicles at the shared border. Special measures will be introduced at the Ruse-Giurgiu Danube Bridge to address disruptions caused by ongoing repair works.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the two ministries’ police forces, border police, migration services, organized crime units, and anti-corruption bodies.
