The Supreme Election Council of Turkiye announced the final results of the May 14 parliamentary elections, according to which the party of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received 268 seats and the main opposition force - 169 seats in the 600-member parliament, Turkish state TV TRT Haber reported on Tuesday.
Voter turnout was 87.05%: 88.92% within the country and 53.80% abroad.
The breakdown of the parliamentary seats by party shows the predominance of the ruling Justice and Development Party with 268 seats. The party stood in the elections in a coalition called the People’s Alliance, with two other formations also securing representation in the Parliament: Erdogan's allies in Devlet Bahceli's Nationalist Movement Party won 50 seats, while the Islamist New Welfare Party won 5.
Kemal Kilicdaroglu's opposition Republican People’s Party remains the largest opposition force with 169 seats. It also stood in the elections in a coalition - the so-called National Alliance - with the nationalist Good Party, which won 43 seats, and four other smaller formations, none of which managed to win MP seats.
The Green Left Party, whose lists included candidates of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party which is threatened with closure, gets 61 MPs, while the Workers’ Party puts 4 representatives in the Parliament.
The final results of the May 18 presidential elections runoff are expected to be announced on 1 June.
