Bulgarian tennis player Elizara Yaneva has officially made the highest leap in the WTA ranking, the International Tennis Federation says. The 18-year-old jumped 194 notches in the weekly world women’s ranking to reach a career-high 464th place, a clear sign that the new generation of Bulgarian female tennis players are advancing confidently on the international scene.
The news comes after Yaneva won the singles title at the Goto Diamonds Cup, a women’s clay court tournament in Pazardzhik, Southern Bulgaria, which had USD 40,000 in prize money.
Yaneva received congratulations from the Rafa Nadal Academy, where she trains. The Academy noted that the Goto Diamonds Cup is her first W50 title. The victory is even more special because she sustained an injury just a few months ago, and she had to spend a whole month off the court while recovering at the Academy. It was only her second tournament after her comeback – and she won it. It was a remarkable return and a big step forward in Yaneva’s career, the Academy said.
