“We can clearly see that after four years of political stagnation and instability, when institutions work in coordination, results are visible,” said Interior Minister Daniel Mitov during a press briefing at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing following the seizure of nearly 206 kg of cocaine worth over BGN 37.
“This is how it should be, and this is how it must continue. The contrast is obvious,” he commented.
Mitov congratulated the leadership of the Ministry of Finance, the Customs Agency, the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and the Prosecutor’s Office for the excellent coordination and synchronization that led to the capture of the record drug amount.
The Interior Minister also stressed the international significance of this operation and highlighted that it was carried out entirely by Bulgarian authorities. “This is an organized criminal group that operated across EU member states, which are our partners and allies. From now on, we will engage in discussions with them to determine how the group functioned and what exactly took place,” Mitov explained. He added that Bulgaria will inform its partners so they can take action, because such groups often generate other forms of organized crime that threaten the stability of societies.
