Razgrad Regional Court remanded in custody a 42-year-old man, initials A.S., wanted in Belgium on a European arrest warrant for cocaine trafficking and membership of an organised criminal group, the court’s press service said on Thursday.

The warrant, dated May 5, 2024, was issued by the Appellate Court in Antwerp, Enforcement of Sentences Department. A.S. was entered in the Schengen Information System for arrest and extradition, and officers detained him in Razgrad on Monday, May 12, 2025.

Belgian authorities convicted him of importing containers of cocaine through the Port of Antwerp and taking part in an organised criminal group between April 1 and April 26, 2021. He received a five-year prison sentence, with 1,595 days still to serve, and a fine of EUR 24,000.

The decision may be appealed before the Appellate Court in Varna (on the Black Sea).

Earlier this year, Razgrad Regional Court remanded in custody another man under pre-trial proceedings for human trafficking.
