In a Facebook post on Thursday, Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev wrote: "On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I congratulate Catholics in this country and around the world on the election of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV." 

Georgiev wished the new Pope "wisdom, peace, and spiritual strength in his ministry."

Earlier in the day, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the new pope and has taken the name Leo XIV, according to a live broadcast on the Holy See’s official portal, Vatican News.
