The Great Ambition (Original title: Berlinguer: La grande ambizione) - a film with Bulgarian participation - won two David di Donatello film awards at a ceremony on Wednesday evening at the Cinecittà film studios in Rome - for Best Leading Actor (Elio Germano) and for Best Editing, Italian media reported.
The film covers life events of Enrico Berlinguer, leader of the Italian Communist Party and one of the most influential political figures in Italy and globally during the 1970s.
Two Bulgarian actors are part of the cast - Svetoslav Dobrev takes on the role of Bulgaria’s former head of state Todor Zhivkov, while Nikolay Danchev plays the former Soviet Union leader Leonid Brezhnev.
The Great Ambition is a co-production between Italy, Belgium, and Bulgaria, with the Bulgarian company Agitprop as co-producer, in collaboration with RAI Cinema, supported by the Italian Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Italian Ministry of Culture. The film is co-financed by the European Union, with tax credits from Belgium, support from Wallimage (Wallonia), the Bulgarian National Film Centre, and with financial participation from the Bulgarian National Television.
