Sofia Philharmonic Marks 80th Anniversary of Rescue of Bulgarian Jews with Concert

A concert on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews will take place on September 3 in Bulgaria Hall, the Sofia Philharmonic, host of the event, said Wednesday. The concert is under the patronage of President Rumen Radev.

Apart from the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israeli "Ashira Choir" with conductor Isaak Tavior, "Cappella Anima" with conductor Stanimira Manolova and the German Bayreuth Zamir Choir with conductor Barbara Bayer will take part. The soloists will be Barbara Bayer and James Clark.

The programme will include works by Brahms - Academic Festival Overture, and Bellini - Elvira's aria from "The Puritans", as well as two works by Isaak Tavior - "The Last Days Are Coming" (an oratorio for chorus, soloists and orchestra) and "A Vision of Dry Bones" (a symphonic poem for chorus, soloists and orchestra). Also included is the folk song "If I Forget Thee, Jerusalem."
