Five Turkish soldiers were killed in clashes with PKK in Northern Iraq, the Turkish National Defence Ministry said, as quoted by the asate TRT-Haber TV on Thursday.

The clashes occurred on Wednesday in the area where the anti-terrorist Operation Claw-Lock is taking place.

Two of the men died on the spot and three were wounded. The three servicemen were taken to hospital where they later died of their wounds, in spite of the doctors' efforts.

The Turkish Defence Ministry underscored that the anti-terrorist actions of the Turkish military in Northern Iraq will continue.

Turkiye launched Operation Claw-Lock in April 2022 against PKK activities in the regions of Metina, Zap and Avashin Basyan in Northern Iraq, near the Turkish border.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkiye, the EU and the United States – has bases in Northern Iraq and the militants associated with it are active in Northern Syria.
