A delegation from the European Commission's Regional and Urban Policy Directorate-General will pay a three-day visit to Bulgaria from February 8 at the invitation of the Bulgarian authorities.

The delegation will be led by Sofia Alves, Director of the Directorate for Administrative Capacity Building and Programme Implementation II, and Agnes Monfret, Head of DG REGIO unit Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovenia, who are responsible for the implementation of the Partnership Agreement and the programmes co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, the Cohesion Fund and the Just Transition Fund in several countries, including Bulgaria.

For Bulgaria, the Directorate oversees the implementation of the Partnership Agreement and the Operational Programmes for the period 2014-2020 and will monitor the implementation of the Partnership Agreement and the programmes for 2021-2027: Transport Connectivity, Environment, Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises, Technical Assistance, Development of Regions, Research, Innovation and Digitalisation for Smart Transformation.

As part of the visit, the European Commission team will meet with Deputy Prime Minister for EU Funds Atanas Pekanov and the Managing Authorities of the Operational Programmes 2014-2020 and the new programmes 2021-2027.

During the visit, the EC representatives will participate in the Monitoring Committee for the Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises Programme 2021-2027 and the Joint Monitoring Committee for the Partnership Agreement 2014-2020 and the Partnership Agreement 2021-2027, which will be held in Sofia. The Monitoring Committees include representatives of the administration, employers, trade unions, NGOs and other stakeholders monitoring the implementation of programmes funded by Cohesion Policy.

The delegation will also visit projects funded under Operational Programme Innovation and Competitiveness 2014-2020.
