Casting his vote, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said he voted for a strong Bulgaria in a strong Europe. "This is what I want us to leave to our children," he added.

Terziev said he opted for machine voting and showed a screwdriver he had brought with him, joking that he took it to make sure the voting process would go smoothly. "That's what they said, that it is safest to use a flash drive and a screwdriver when voting by machine," he quipped. Claims that machines can be manipulated are nonsense, Terziev added.

Asked by BTA about reports of voting machine issues in Sofia and across the country, the mayor said that while there are problems, they are not of a nature that would allow vote rigging through the machines. He stressed that such matters fall within the competence of the Central Election Commission.
