Barekov, Coalition Candidates for Parliament Block Traffic at Border with Turkey

Kapitan Andreevo Border Checkpoint, October 1 (BTA) - Nikolai
Barekov, leader of Bulgaria without Censorship (BwC), candidates
for Parliament and activists of the coalition of the same name
blocked traffic at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the
Bulgarian-Turkish border at 8 am local time on Wednesday.

Traffic also came to a halt at Lessovo and Malko Turnovo, the
other two checkpoints on that border, Barekov MEP (European
Conservatives and Reformists Group) told journalists.

He said the protest was triggered by what he said was "a
dishonest deal between GERB and the Movement for Rights and
Freedoms". He said they made a deal "to form a coalition, to be
guaranteed with votes from the Republic of Turkey". Barekov
claimed the Reformist Bloc was also involved in that "deal". He
presumed that voters from Turkey would be arriving in Bulgaria
in the next five days until the October 5 parliamentary
elections.

Barekov said the road blocks were not intended to stop trade
with Turkey.

The protestors also want tighter security as a barrier to the
expected flow of illegal migrants, and support police and
servicemen who oppose a planned increase in their retirement
age.

For now, the BwC coalition is planning to block the border
checkpoints until October 6. However, at 9:20 am Barekov said
the road blocks would be lifted for 15 minutes.

Police are providing security. Protestors said they would not
allow any clashes with law enforcers.
