The delayed appointment of a caretaker government serves the interests of the ruling parties and former President Rumen Radev, said Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov in a televised interview on Saturday.
According to him, it is not good that the likely date for the upcoming early parliamentary elections keeps being postponed.
“I don’t know when the elections will be; the next possible date is April 19, because I don’t believe they would hold elections on Palm Sunday or Easter. On the other hand, April 19 is Thomas Sunday,” he said.
During consultations with parliamentary parties, President Iliana Iotova said that everything possible would be done to hold the elections on the first date after the Easter holidays.
“The proposal to limit polling stations in countries outside the European Union was suggested years ago,” said Kostadinov regarding amendments to the Election Code. “This is a promise that Vazrazhdane made to our voters,” he also noted.
“We analyzed the voting in the only two EU countries where large numbers of people vote, In the United Kingdom, 21,000 people voted in the last elections, and in the United States – 8,000,” Kostadinov said. “The limit of 20 polling stations is easily achievable; they are outside the embassy and consular offices,” he said. According to him, this means that an additional four to six polling stations could still be opened. He does not expect any crowding in polling stations.
The party leader also said that he does not expect high voter turnout in the United Kingdom in the upcoming elections due to the return of active Bulgarians to their homeland.
