Protesters against the “war on the roads” gathered on Saturday on the road between Byala and Botevgrad, near the turnoff to the village of Telish in northern Bulgaria. The protest was organized on Facebook by Nikolaj Popov, the father of Siyana, who tragically died in a car accident on the same road last year.

The protest was also prompted by a crash on January 28 on the stretch of road between the villages of Telish and Gorni Dabnik, in which former Cherven Bryag mayor Tsvetan Kostadinov was killed.

“This road needs major repairs so that we can travel normally. There must be reform in the Interior Ministry, and we need a functioning system,” Popov said.
