Ardino Municipality has declared a partial state of emergency after torrential rain caused the Arda River to swell and flood a bridge that serves as the only road connection to six villages, the municipal authorities said Tuesday.
The bridge near the village of Kitnitsa provides access to the villages of Rusalsko, Lyubino, Latinka, Avramovo, Pesnopoy, and Spoluka.
According to the Hydrometeorological Observatory in Kardzhali, the precipitation was 20 l/sq m over a 24-hour period.
To ensure public safety, the mayor has issues an order that bans traffic and the presence of motor vehicles in several critical areas.
This is the second time since the beginning of the year that the reinforced concrete bridge over the Arda River has been flooded. The first occurred on January 8.
