A UK-Turkish packaging manufacturer has launched its production lines at a new plant in Burgas, the city’s mayor Dimitar Nikolov said in a post on Facebook. According to Nikolov, Smith Anderson & Apa LLC began operating its production lines on Tuesday at its facility in the Burgas Industrial and Logistics Park, following an investment of around EUR 11 million.

The company’s products will be used at the FIFA World Cup to be held this year in the United States, Mexico and Canada, according to the post.

The plant currently employs about 60 people, with plans to hire at least 100 more workers by the end of the summer. All production is intended for export.

Smith Anderson is a British family-owned company founded in 1859 and based in Kirkcaldy, the United Kingdom. It produces paper bags and packaging for retail, food and e-commerce and operates the Burgas facility through a joint venture with Turkey’s Apa Group.
