The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) has selected 19 students from National Aprilov High School for its 2026 internship program. The names of the future interns were announced by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev during the school’s patron day celebrations.
Valchev met with 11th- and 12th-grade students to introduce BTA’s work and future career opportunities. He also discussed plans to launch a BTA Institute to integrate artificial intelligence tools into the news agency’s operations, emphasizing the importance of combining AI with strong journalistic judgment. “You need to know how to ask questions in order to use artificial intelligence, which is why high natural intelligence is important. If you ask correctly, you receive a useful answer — and that is journalism. At both the input and output of artificial intelligence stands natural intelligence, and everyone needs to understand this,” he said.
The internship program, launched by BTA in 2023 and supported by the Gabrovo Municipality and the National Aprilov High School, aims to inspire young Bulgarians to return to their hometowns after higher education and contribute to local development. There were three interns the first year and by 2025 their number had grown to 10.
Earlier in the day, the BTA Director General attended a ceremony for the 191st anniversary of the Aprilov School, paid floral tribute to a Vassil Aprilov monument and Aprilov's tomb in the school yard.
