site.btaFinance Minister: Government, Local Authorities Mobilize Efforts to Solve Water Crisis in Omurtag
All efforts have been mobilized to find a solution to the water crisis in Omurtag (Northeastern Bulgaria), Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova told BTA on Friday. Together with Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov, she took part in a working meeting with Targovishte Regional Governor Yoan Peev and representatives of local authorities from the region.
Petkova said that the meeting discussed possible ways to overcome the water crisis in Omurtag, which has been causing inconvenience to residents for years. “The government and local authorities, all of us, have mobilized our efforts to find a solution to this problem. There is no reason not to be optimistic,” the Finance Minister said.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Zafirov, who also chairs the National Water Board, briefed participants in detail on the measures taken so far, while Petkova outlined the available financing options for the projects that will provide a practical solution to the problem. Earlier on Friday, Zafirov said that Omurtag is currently the largest settlement in the country where water supply is rationed.
