The son and father of Istanbul's suspended mayor Ekrem Imamoglu have been summoned by police to give statements, Turkish state television TRT Haber reported on Tuesday. Imamoglu's father, Hasan Imamoglu, and his son, Selim Imamoglu, will appear before law enforcement authorities as suspects on charges of bribery and money laundering.

The exact date when the two are to appear for questioning by the police is still unclear.

Ekrem Imamoglu and other high-ranking members of Turkiye's main opposition Republican People's Party were detained on March 19 after the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul brought charges of corruption, bribery and collaboration with terrorists. In July, he was convicted of insulting and threatening the chief prosecutor of Istanbul. Imamoglu will also face charges of espionage and selling personal data to other countries. He denies all charges. His arrest sparked a wave of protests in Turkiye, which are still going.
