The Council of Ministers Wednesday adopted a decision proposing to the National Assembly the ratification of the agreement between Bulgaria and Italy on cooperation in the field of defence regarding the joint construction and use of military facilities in the Kabile military area.
The agreement was signed by Bulgaria's Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov and his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto on December 23, 2025. In line with Bulgaria’s commitments as a full member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the agreement marks the beginning of the construction of military infrastructure intended for the multinational battle group stationed in Bulgarian territory.
The construction of military facilities in the Kabile Military Area is a strategic step to strengthen the defensive capabilities of Bulgaria and NATO, the Government Information Service said. It will provide the necessary infrastructure for the deployment and support of the multinational battle group, as well as the capacity for its future expansion.
