Dancers from more than 100 Bulgarian folklore ensembles representing 18 countries participated on Sunday in the Grand Horo circle dance initiative, held at Place des Terreaux in Lyon, France. The folklore event is part of the tenth edition of the travelling festival “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance,” hosted this year by the Bulgarian dance group Ot Izvora [from the source/spring] in the French city.

The Bulgarian event was attended by Nadia Zhivkova-Vaneva, Consul General of Bulgaria in Lyon, Rayna Mandzhukova, Executive Director of the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, and Kiril Valchev, Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

While Bulgarians from across Europe and the United States were dancing together in celebration, Place des Terreaux came alive with performances by featured guests, including folk singer Guna Ivanova, the Kabadalii men’s folk group, and the Pirinsko Troyche folk formation.

French tourists, painting in watercolour by the Bartholdi Fountain, were inspired by the event and began sketching their own artistic interpretations of the colourful Bulgarian folk costumes.

The 10th festival mottoed "Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance" opened in Lyon, France, on Friday.

As the official media partner of the event, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is covering it on site from Lyon on June 6-8.
