site.btaPM Zhelyazkov to US President Trump: US-Bulgaria Partnership Remains Essential

The strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the United States remains essential for the positive development of relations, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said during a meeting with US President Donald Trump, the Government press service said on Saturday.

Zhelyazkov met with Trump on Friday, as he attended the traditional reception hosted by the US President for the session of the UN General Assembly. During their brief conversation, Zhelyazkov identified energy and defence as among the most important areas in which the US and Bulgaria are achieving historic successes and are rapidly deepening cooperation.

Zhelyazkov is heading Bulgaria's delegation at this year's 80th session of the UN General Assembly. He is joined by Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev, Health Minister Silvi Kirilov, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, and Labour and Social Policy Minister Borislav Gutsanov. On Friday, Zhelyakov addressed the UN assembly and said that for the UN to respond to today's challenges, reform is not a choice but a necessity.
