Bulgaria's potential lies mainly in its energy opportunities, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said during a briefing here on Thursday. He talked to reporters after talks with representatives of US businesses, including Meta and General Electric.

“At the meeting with General Electric, we discussed small modular reactors, the issue of energy security for future technological opportunities in the country, the construction of digital infrastructure, and the development of potential for the construction of gigafactories for artificial intelligence,” the Prime Minister said.

“Of course, attracting a strategic partner such as Meta is extremely important. We talked about the country's potential, which mainly consists of energy opportunities,,” he added.

Bulgaria's ambition is, instead of being a mere exporter of electricity, to harness the generation of this energy from all sources for the construction of data centres, said Zhelyazkov.

“Meta introduced us to their investment intentions in Europe,“ announced the Prime Minister, adding that ”it is important for Bulgaria to combine the interests of US business of equipment manufacturers on the one hand and of end users, on the other."

Zhelyazkov is in the US leading the Bulgarian delegation to the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. The delegation also includes Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev, Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, Health Minister Silvi Kirilov, and Labour and Social Policy Minister Borislav Gutsanov. The Prime Minister is expected to address the UN on Friday.
