Austrian oil, gas and chemicals group OMV plans to review 2,000 of its 23,000 worldwide staff, the Kurier daily newspaper’s online edition reported on Thursday evening.
As part of its cost-cutting and efficiency programme, 400 of the company’s 5,400 positions in Austria would be scrapped, with the company planning to make the cuts "as socially aware as possible", the newspaper reported. The programme is to be completed by 2027.
Employees were informed of the plans during a staff meeting. According to Kurier, a reduction in staff in the mid three-digit range was mentioned. OMV management announced that 400 people would be affected. However, the cuts would mainly affect the corporate sector. 1,000 employees work in the administration.
In financing, more than 200 employees from Romania were transferred to Austria. The paper said the company's Romanian subsidiary Petrom would be especially badly affected, with cuts also planned at its refinery in Burghausen, Bavaria, Southern Germany and in Slovakia.
