Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Shekerletova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s support for Ukraine’s European integration at an informal meeting of the ministers for European affairs of the member states of the European Union, the Foreign Ministry said on its website.

The meeting was held in Lviv, Ukraine, under the current Danish Presidency of the EU Council.

The discussion focused on the progress and next steps in Ukraine’s EU accession process. The ministers discussed the results achieved, progress in reforms and the priorities for the country’s further integration, the Foreign Ministry said. The forum aimed to underline the EU’s firm commitment to Ukraine’s European future.

In her address, Shekerletova welcomed Ukraine’s strong political commitment to implementing key EU-related reforms and the substantial progress achieved so far despite the difficult circumstances. She praised Ukraine’s constructive and transparent approach in developing the action plan for national minorities. Shekerletova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s readiness to assist Ukraine with expert and technical support for advancing its key reforms related to EU accession, the statement added.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Shekerletova took part in a memorial ceremony in honour of the victims of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.

The EU has handed Ukraine a lengthy list of reforms that must be carried out in relation to the country’s accession to the bloc, and Kyiv is determined to speed up the process despite the ongoing war and the obstacles posed by one of the EU member states, Hungary, AP reported.
