Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni agreed to hold an intergovernmental meeting between Bulgaria and Italy in March 2026, the government press service reported on Monday. Zhelyazkov is in Rome to attend the official ceremony unveiling the route of the 2026 Giro d’Italia, with Bulgaria set to host the opening.

The Prime Ministers discussed issues related to the upcoming European Council meeting later in December. They focused on enhancing the competitiveness of the European economy and mitigating the impact of the green transition. Defence cooperation was also a key topic, while the war in Ukraine and migration were among other matters discussed.
