Judge Mira Raycheva-Shekerdzhieva of the Supreme Administrative Court was elected as half-time judge of the UN Dispute Tribunal for the 2026-2033 period by the UN General Assembly on November 17, the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday. Her candidacy and that of Zambia received the support of 119 UN Member States each.
Ten candidates from various countries, representing all UN regional groups, competed for five vacant positions on the Tribunal. They were nominated by the UN Internal Justice Council after a multi-stage selection procedure that began with 391 initial applications. The UN Dispute Tribunal is the first instance in the UN’s two-tier system for adjudicating administrative disputes.
The high result reflects both the professional qualities of the Bulgarian candidate and the active diplomatic campaign carried out by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry at the UN in New York and through accredited diplomatic missions in Sofia. The efforts to support her nomination lasted three months and concluded with the highest score among the participants under conditions of strong competition.
This recognition is a clear sign of the international authority and trust that Bulgaria enjoys within the UN system.
