site.btaNational Volleyball Team Welcomed with Standing Ovation in Parliament

MPs welcomed Bulgaria’s men’s national volleyball team and their coaching staff with applause and a standing ovation in the plenary hall on Wednesday. They were joined by Bulgarian Volleyball Federation President Lyubomir Ganev.

The silver medallists from the Men’s Volleyball World Championship in the Philippines were greeted with bread and salt at the National Assembly.

Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova congratulated the team, saying: “For us, they are champions.” She proposed presenting each player with a plaque and wished that next year the gold would come to Sofia.

Earlier in the day, MPs unanimously voted, 174 in favour, to allow the silver medalists into the plenary hall.

Deputy Parliament Chair Dragomir Stoynev praised the volleyball players, saying they had become “giants” who fought and won for Bulgaria, filling the nation with pride. “Their success is the success of all Bulgarian citizens,” he said.

A recess was then declared so that MPs and guests could celebrate the team in the Marble Hall of Parliament.
