Bulgarian boxer Radoslav Rosenov claimed a bronze medal at the World Championships in Liverpool, England. Competing in the 60 kg category, Rosenov lost his semifinal bout 1:4 on judges’ scorecards to Brazil’s Luiz Gabriel Oliveira.

Oliveira advanced to Sunday’s title match against Abdumalik Khalokov of Uzbekistan, while Rosenov and Shunsuke Kitamoto of Japan secured bronze medals.

The fight started poorly for Rosenov, a native of Ruse, who clearly trailed in the first round as all five judges favoured the Brazilian. In the second round, however, Rosenov dominated and rightfully won the judges’ votes.

A slightly passive start to the third round, combined with unnecessary clinching, prevented the Bulgarian from securing victory. Oliveira won the final round 4:1 on the scorecards and took the match overall.

Before reaching the semifinal, Rosenov had eliminated Britain’s William Hewitt with a unanimous decision.
