site.btaWorld and European Champions to Participate in the Sofia Karate Open 2025 Karate Tournament


More than 50 world and European champions and medalists will take part in the 12th edition of the largest karate tournament in Bulgaria, Sofia Karate Open – The President's Cup 2025, which will be held on Saturday, May 17, at the Arena 8888 Sofia hall, the organizers said. The competition, which is organized by the Tsanev Sports Club and with the assistance of the Bulgarian National Karate Federation, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Sofia - European Capital of Sport Foundation and is part of the Sport with the President initiative, will bring together 1,500 participants from 28 countries around the world.
The largest number of karatekas will be from Bulgaria (495), Ukraine will participate with 364 competitors, Greece with 143, Romania with 109. In addition to the other Balkan countries, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, the Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkiye, representatives are sent by Cyprus, England, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Algeria, Morocco, India, Nepal and Pakistan.
Medals will be distributed in all ages of kata and kumite including to children, cadets, juniors, youth up to 21 years, men and women and veterans, and the team winner will receive the President's Cup.
The competition will begin at 9 am with makiwara for children and the kata competition, followed kumite matches, and the official opening 1 pm at Arena 8888 Sofia on May 17, 2025.
