Nearly 800,000 citizens who have disability certificates issued by Medical Expert Evaluation Boards (MEEBs) and receive social payments, Labour and Social Policity Minister Borislav Gutsanov said here on Wednesday. He stressed that the legislation should be analyzed as the payments already amount to billions.

"Some 26,000 people have been recipients of personal assistance in recent years, and now there are over 80,000," he said without specifying which year the data refers to.

Gutsanov responded to Alliance for Rights and Freedoms MP Hasen Ademov, who recounted a case in Stara Zagora where a patient's social assistance was suspended because of an appeal against a MEEBs decision.
