site.btaHarvested Vegetables and Fruits Increase in Bulgaria in 2024


Harvested fruits and vegetables increased in Bulgaria in 2024, Eurostat reported here on Monday.
Slightly more than 527,000 tonnes of vegetables (including melons) were harvested in Bulgaria in 2024. This is a 12% increase compared to the 470,000 tonnes of vegetables harvested in Bulgaria in 2023.
Production of several key vegetables slightly increased in Bulgaria: tomato production was 11% higher to 128,000 tonnes, while carrot production was 3% higher to 10,000 tonnes.
Only onion production was 10% lower, down to 35,000 tonnes.
The EU recorded similar figures. The increase in vegetables was two times lower, at 6% with 62.2 mln tonnes harvested in 2024 compared to 58.8 mln tonnes in 2023.
Except for onions, the EU experienced similar growth to that in Bulgaria in production of the key vegetables. Tomato production was 5% higher at 16.8 million tonnes, carrot production was 6% higher at 4.7 million tonnes and onion production was 11% higher at 7.0 million tonnes.14.5% more fruits (excluding citrus fruits, grapes, strawberries) were harvested in Bulgaria in 2024, almost 205,000 tonnes, compared to 179,000 tonnes in 2023.
The EU, however, reported a 2% decrease with 24.3 tonnes of fruits harvested.
