Unit 6 at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) will be shut down at the end of the week to undergo planned maintenance related to a coolant leak in the third steam generator, the company said on its official website on Tuesday.
The shutdown was decided as a precautionary measure to ensure the unit’s high safety standards and to maintain reliable electricity supply throughout the summer. The maintenance activities are being coordinated with the Electricity System Operator.
According to the company, continuous monitoring indicates that recorded values remain several times below the limits set by technological regulations. Safety thresholds prescribed by operational standards have not been exceeded, and there have been no changes in radiation levels within the work areas or elsewhere on the Kozloduy NPP site.
Following completion of the maintenance, Unit 6 will be reconnected to the national energy grid, the company added. Meanwhile, Unit 5 continues to operate according to schedule.
As of Tuesday, the real-time gross load of Unit 6 is 957 MW, according to data from the plant’s website.
