The District Prosecutor’s Office in Haskovo has launched an investigation into an attempted illegal transfer of foreign currency worth BGN 114,361 through the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint at the Bulgarian-Turkish border. The incident occurred on May 9 and involved a cargo truck attempting to leave Bulgaria for Turkiye, the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office in Plovdiv reported.
During a customs inspection, officers discovered undeclared currency—specifically GBP 50,000—in various denominations hidden inside the air ducts of the truck's tractor unit, according to the Regional Press Center of the Customs Agency in Svilengrad.
According to customs statistics, since the beginning of the year, officials at Kapitan Andreevo have intercepted undeclared currency with a total value nearing BGN 3.35 million.
