EU household electricity prices were largely stable in H2 2024, Eurostat reported Tuesday, with Bulgaria among the bloc’s cheapest markets.

Taxes and fees inched up to 25.1% of the bill, from 24.3% six months earlier. Wholesale energy fell year-on-year, but higher transmission charges in 18 member states absorbed much of the relief.

Price gaps across the EU remained wide: Germany topped the ranking at EUR 39.43 per 100 kWh, ahead of Denmark (EUR 37.63) and Ireland (EUR 36.99).

At the opposite end, Hungary (EUR 10.32), Bulgaria (EUR 12.17) and Malta (EUR 13.01) were the least expensive.
